Students and advisers will gather for this year’s NWSP Fall Press Day on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at University of Oregon  in Eugene, Oregon in the Erb Memorial Union. In addition to membership discounts for this NWSP event, there are many reasons this year’s conference will kick off the best year ever for your publications and student media staffs.

Here are the top five great reasons your staff should attend Press Day—

Really talented people.

Like award-winning, hard-hitting New York journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, our Keynote Speaker, who specializes in Watchdog Journalism. She worked at The Oregonian before joining Pulitzer Prize-winning ProPublica, the non-profit investigative news organization leading the digital news revolution. She reports and writes investigative projects on discrimination, fair housing and waste in federal programs. In addition to developing and writing news articles for the Northwest’s largest newspaper and online audience, she also shot and edited short videos for The Oregonian from 2006-2011. Today’s journalists must master multimedia reporting, writing , production and presentation skills across all media types. Nikole has been recognized by the Gannett Foundation for Innovation In Watchdog Journalism in 2012, the C. B. Blethen memorial Award for Distinguished Reporting In The Northwest in 2011, and the Society of Professional Journalists Pacifc NW Excellence in Journalism Award in 2007, 2008 and 2011. Stay tuned for more speakers.
